Human Life Service Fund-Raising Joggerthon 2009

A joggerthon under the patronage of YB Mr. Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication Sarawak, will be held on the 27th June at the Pusat Belia Dan Sukan sports field to raise funds for Human Life Service (HLS), Miri.

HLS was set up on the 15th October, 1995. It operates under the umbrella of the Roman Catholic Church of the Miri Diocese, as a non-profit making organization. For 14 years, HLS has been Protecting and Defending Life from Conception to Natural Death in our society.

This is in line with the Government Policy to form a Community which is Caring, Healthy and of Moral Standing. Each year, an average of 8 outreach programmes and 10 educational talks is conducted in the outskirts of Miri and in schools respectively.

The St Joseph’s Home, opened on the 19th March, 1996, provides temporary shelter for women and children in critical situations. To date, 56 women in pregnancy crises, 36 women and children in domestic violence and abusive relationships have been received into the Home.

As part of her efforts to educate the public, HLS is jointly organizing the 16th Human Life International Asia Pacific Congress (HLI-ASPAC), jointly organized by HLS and the Miri Diocese, in collaboration with Human Life International is scheduled for the 19th to the 21st November this year. It will feature several internationally known speakers who will address important and urgent human life issues such as frozen embryos among others.
